It is in this context that stands out a strong regional specialization, with particular reference to digital ecosystems (distributed digital services, Pervasive Business Intelligence on Big Data, Open linked data) and cyber-security (digital services security, end user final protection, dematerialization) with the contribution of the Internet of Things.

The development of scientific and industrial activities in the ICT sector dates back to over 30 years ago thanks also to the role of the University of Calabria, included among the best one hundred universities in the world (ARWU 2010) for computer science.
